About

Shoal Creek Podiatry is based in Austin and led by Dr. Frank Cherpack, DPM. The practice treats foot disorders and ankle sprains, with both surgical and nonsurgical options for adults and children. Its stated mission is to deliver high-quality care in a friendly, comfortable setting and to go beyond what patients expect. The practice has hospital affiliations with St. David's Hospitals, Seton Hospitals, Brackenridge Hospital and Northwest Surgery Center. It describes itself as a leading provider of family foot care in the Austin area.

The practice says heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis rather than a heel spur, and it claims to have proven treatments that resolve heel pain quickly. Other common concerns include bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, plantar warts, nail fungus and skin cancer of the foot. Diabetic patients can receive wound care, diabetic shoes and an initial diabetic foot screening. Sports injuries of the foot and ankle sprains are also treated, and the athletic shoes an athlete wears can be evaluated during the visit.

Medical pedicures address corns, calluses and thick nails. A surgical scalpel is used to trim calluses, followed by a rotary sanding disc to smooth the area. The practice states that cosmetologists, pedicurists and nail technicians cannot legally cut calluses with a scalpel. Flexor tenotomy is done in the office under local anesthesia for flexible to semi-rigid hammertoes. Rigid hammertoes that cannot be reduced usually need bone work, such as arthroplasty or joint fusion, instead.

New patients fill out a Patient Information Form and a Medical History Form before the first visit. It helps to bring insurance information and any prior operation records, medical records, x-rays, MRIs and CT scans. The new patient consult starts at $100, depending on how complex the problems are and how much time is needed. Cash charges follow private insurance fee schedules, and the consult price matches what insurers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield allow. Patients without insurance are not penalized, and pricing is available on request. Cash, check and major credit cards are accepted, and any deductible, co-insurance or unpaid balance is due at the visit. Appointments need to be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours ahead. A $50 cancellation or no-show fee applies and must be paid before another appointment can be booked.

Focuses on high-quality care in a friendly, comfortable setting, combining surgical and nonsurgical options for adults and children.
