Shiny Strands focuses entirely on head lice. Visits are organized around a short screening, a removal session if lice are found, and a re-check when one is needed. The salon is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 7pm and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm, and appointments outside those hours can be requested online.

A head check, the screening, costs $35 per person, and that fee is waived if treatment turns out to be required. Removal is charged at $100 per hour per person, billed in quarter-hour increments, and treatment outside business hours is $175 per hour per person. The salon says a typical session runs about 1 to 2 hours for a female client and 30 to 60 minutes for a male client. For more severe cases, a follow-up may be recommended three to five days later, taking about 30 minutes.

At the end of the first appointment, the salon provides a Back to School Release Form, including for schools that have a No Nit Policy. A budget-friendly treatment plan is available for families with financial concerns. According to the site, home cleaning needs are minimal: a professional cleaning service, special laundry detergents, or household sprays are not needed.

According to the salon, it holds certification from the Shepherd Institute, a body headed by Katie Shepherd. The salon calls Katie Shepherd a top expert on head lice. Each treatment plan is set around hair type, how severe the infestation is, and how well the child is able to cooperate, with removal done strand by strand.
