It spent 11 years in Carrollwood Village before moving to the Village Center to accommodate a growing client base. A second location, Shear Art South, opened in fall 2013 in South Tampa.

According to the salon, its values are honesty, integrity, trust and friendship, and it aims to welcome everyone warmly. The salon reports serving more than 15,000 residents of the Tampa Bay area. Its stylists have appeared in five international magazines and on two national TV programs in the years since 2002, the salon says. It also states that it has raised more than $150,000 for local causes and gives to local charities and non-profits each year.

Service providers work within a level system, from Level 1 to Level 8, and levels are promoted based on demand for their time. The salon says team training begins at hire and continues throughout each team member's career. Stylists are listed as Redken Certified Colorists, Designers, Finishing Artists and Balayage Artists. The owner, Joanne Powers, is also CEO of Summit Salon Academy, a cosmetology school the salon describes as a Redken Premier School.

Shear Art North is open Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 9pm, Friday from 8am to 8:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 6pm. Shear Art South keeps the same weekday hours and Saturday hours from 8am to 6pm, and is closed on Sunday. Both locations list the same phone number, 813.968.4836. Booking through the online portal requires a credit card to hold an appointment. Guests may request service changes within 7 days of a service, but the salon does not offer refunds on services.
