Serenity Salt Spa was founded by Tina Kilburn, a retired hair designer, after about six months of preparation. The spa's stated aim is to help clients feel better, breathe easier and relax.
The salt cave is built from about 12,000 pounds of Himalayan salt rock, with salt pieces covering the floor. A generator disperses pharmaceutical-grade Himalayan salt particles into the room, and the cave is kept at about 68 degrees with plush blankets provided. The spa says the Himalayan salt contains 84 trace minerals and comes from an ancient seabed in Pakistan, 350 feet underground, and it describes 45 minutes in the cave as roughly equal to two full days at the ocean. Those are the spa's own claims.
Visitors can book salt cave sessions, halotherapy sessions for adults, children and parent-and-child pairs, HaloRed red-light sessions of about 20 minutes, and an elite private room option. Massages are by appointment only, including Swedish, deep tissue, Himalayan salt stone, pre-natal, lymphatic drainage and couples massage. Facials include the Mini Sweet and Salty, Clarifying, Antioxidant, Oxygen Rx and Salt facials, and the spa says facials are personalized to each client before the service begins. Other services accept walk-ins.
The spa says sessions may help with a range of respiratory, sinus, allergy and skin concerns. It notes that the FDA has not evaluated halotherapy, and that dry salt therapy does not aim to detect, address, remedy or head off any illness. Guests entering the cave are advised to check with their doctor beforehand, particularly if they are pregnant or managing health conditions.
Visit practicalities: arrive 10 minutes early, since appointments start on the hour and no one enters the cave once a session has begun. Late arrivals must reschedule. Phones and electronics are not allowed in the cave, and lockers are available for valuables. Guests wear clean white socks or go barefoot, and disposable foot coverings are on hand. Children cannot be left unsupervised in the waiting room or cave. Sunday hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Groups of three or more booked outside opening hours should call the spa. Gift cards and online gift certificates are offered, and discounts are available to first responders, military, teachers and seniors 65 and up, though the discount does not apply to memberships.
The spa's stated aim is to help clients feel better, breathe easier and relax, using salt-based sessions alongside massage and facials.
A salt-rock cave with a warm, quiet feel, with blankets and a cool, steady room temperature.
