About

Seguin Beauty School opened its first class on May 31, 1977, founded by Joe and Sherrell Evans. A second campus in New Braunfels opened in 1986 but has since closed because its lease ended. The owners are involved in the school day to day.

The school's mission is to train students to a level of competency that prepares them for work or advancement in the field. The school states that it has the finest cosmetology program and educators available, and describes itself as a family-friendly institution.

The full-time cosmetology program runs 34 weeks, or about eight months. Classes meet Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:30, and new cosmetology classes begin twice a month on select Tuesdays. Coursework covers hair care and treatments, cutting, styling, thermal styling and straightening, texturing, relaxing, coloring and lightening, manicuring, pedicuring, nail work, facials, facial makeup and waxing, along with instruction in running a salon business. Students train in a Salon Sessions Studio and a Theory Classroom, and practice in the School Salon, which has practical styling stations and offers guest services at discounted prices, including to students' family and friends.

Educators work with dozens of salons to keep training current with salon techniques and product knowledge. Students are not limited to one product line. The program prepares students for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation state cosmetology licensing exam.

Job placement help covers posted openings, plus coaching on résumés, applications and interviews. According to the school, its graduates have run, managed or worked at the main salons in the surrounding area. The school does not promise that any student will find a job.

Training is aimed at workplace competency, with educators who keep curriculum tied to current salon practice through relationships with local salons.

The school describes itself as family-friendly and sits in downtown Seguin, directly facing the courthouse.
