Scalpworx was founded in Sandy Springs by Justin Chamberland, who has specialized in scalp micropigmentation since 2017. The studio is on Roswell Road in a suite on the seventh floor area of its building, with free parking in the lobby-level and lower garage. Clients come from Buckhead, Midtown, Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta and beyond.

The first step is a free consultation, either at the studio or by texting three or four well-lit scalp photos. Photo quotes come back within one business day, with no obligation. The consultation covers whether SMP suits the client, hairline design, pricing and the full process. The studio says it aims for transparent pricing and honest candidacy, and it will say so when SMP is not the right choice.

On the day, procedures take place in a private room that is sterilized between clients. Topical numbing cream is used throughout each session, and complimentary snacks and drinks are provided, with a refrigerator and microwave available. Clients may bring one additional person. Pigment is placed with a fine, single-use needle, and shade and dot pattern are matched to each client's skin tone, hair color and hair type. A full procedure is three sessions: the first lays a lighter base, and the final tone is adjusted over the second and third. Session one runs three to five hours, and later sessions are shorter. Sessions are spaced three to four weeks apart. The scalp heals in about a week, with mild redness for 24 to 48 hours. An aftercare kit with instructions is included.

Full procedures are priced between $2,000 and $4,500 all-in, including all three sessions. The final price depends on how much hair loss there is, whether scar concealment is involved, and whether the work is density or full restoration. Smaller areas cost less. Two touch-ups are included, and a second one needed within 90 days of the original date is provided at no extra cost. Long-term touch-ups are $275 per hour and are for Scalpworx clients only. Work done elsewhere can be quoted after a photo assessment by text. The procedure balance is due on the day of the procedure. Appointments must be cancelled within 48 hours to receive a refund, and a $150 rescheduling fee applies to procedures not rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment. A state or federal photo ID is required. Payment is accepted by major credit cards, cash, CareCredit, Cash App, PayPal and Venmo, and CareCredit financing can be prequalified without affecting credit score. SMP is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.

Aims for transparent pricing and honest candidacy, and says plainly when SMP is not right for a client. Each client works with one dedicated artist from consultation through sessions and touch-ups.
