The procedure is a non-surgical cosmetic technique in which small dots are tattooed onto the scalp to resemble hair follicles. No medication or surgery is involved. It can simulate a full front, side or rear hairline, restore hairlines on partly or fully bald heads, and camouflage scarring from hair transplants, burns, birthmarks, alopecia and accidents. For women with thinner areas, it can disguise hair loss, and it can boost the visual effect of a hair transplant. It is offered to men and women who want the look of a closely shaved head or denser, thicker hair.

A visit starts with a free consultation of about 20 minutes. It reviews the process, current hair loss, hairstyle and the result the client wants, and includes a simulation of the new hairline. The work is then done across sessions. The First Session, two to four hours, places a base layer of impressions across thinning areas, including the hairline and temporal region. The Second Session, also two to four hours, adds a darker layer that blends with the first and increases density. After that, the treatment is about 70 to 90 percent complete. The Final Touch Session, about an hour, reviews healing and then adds color, density or blending where needed.

Aftercare happens in stages. For days one to four, clients avoid sweating activities such as cardio and heavy lifting, and keep the treated area dry in the shower. On days five and six, the area is washed with lukewarm water and soap, chemical shampoo is avoided, and activity stays light with low-pace weights. Normal showering and exercise may resume from day seven after a session. Thirty days after all sessions, fake tan, saunas and swimming pools are allowed, and a non-greasy sunscreen is advised in sunny climates. Each clinic's own instructions take precedence over the general guide.
