Scalp Prodigy describes itself as founded by artists, for artists, and calls itself internationally recognized for its artistic work. Benaiah Poindexter founded the business and opened its first studio in Las Vegas. Dennis Romero owns Vanguard SMP, and in 2023 the two businesses combined their training methods to restructure the SMP training course.

Consultations are free and can be booked in person, by phone or by Zoom, and must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours ahead. SMP places small micro dots into the papillary layer of the skin to replicate stubble, and the ink is layered in a pointillism pattern to create a soft gradient that resembles native follicles. The first session usually runs two to three hours and begins with a pre-drawn hairline, soft, hard or hybrid, which the client approves before work starts. A second session of about one to two hours follows roughly two weeks later, and the third and fourth are usually about an hour each, with two weeks of healing between sessions. The site says a single session can take under two hours for men and women seeking treatment for hair loss.

Brow services include microblading, which uses a hand tool or a digital machine to draw hair-like strokes between existing brow hairs, and takes just under two hours. Ombre brows use a digital machine to place fine pigment dots in a gradient from the front of the brow to the tail, and hair strokes at the brow front can be added for an extra fee. Both brow services are listed at $800 for two sessions plus tax.

Aftercare is detailed: clients wear SPF 50+ daily, avoid strenuous activity for three to four days, leave the treated area untouched and dry for at least four days, and avoid moisturizer, shampoo, direct sun, swimming, saunas and steam for that period before gentle washing with cold water and baby shampoo on day five. A touch-up is suggested about two years after SMP is finished, or yearly for clients with high sun exposure or high-profile jobs. The business notes that SMP does not regrow hair follicles.
