Scalp Headquarters was founded in 2019 and is locally owned and operated. The owner, Jacob Sills, trained in New York and Minnesota before opening the clinic in Kansas City, and he performs every SMP treatment personally. Scalp micropigmentation, also called a hair tattoo, is offered for full-head coverage or for small areas of hair loss, for men and for women. The clinic lists treatment for alopecia areata, alopecia totalis, alopecia universalis and androgenetic alopecia. Scar micropigmentation is offered to camouflage surgical scars, injury scars, acne scars, stretch marks, skin discoloration from medical conditions and birthmarks, including scars from hair transplants. A visit begins with a consultation that covers medical history, the level of hair loss, preferences and expectations, and a map of the treatment area. Facial consultations assess hair loss using the Ludwig Scale. A free SMP mockup is offered. Treatment usually takes two to three sessions, adjusted to the client's goals and how the skin responds to the pigment. For facial work, the first two sessions are one week apart and the third is about a month later. Pricing depends on the area treated, the client's goals and budget, and is quoted after consultation. Pay-in-full SMP packages are listed at USD 1,500, USD 2,400 and USD 3,000. Financing is available through United Credit, and the business says its quotes include no hidden fees.

Most clients return to normal activities within one to two days, and mild redness or swelling usually fades in a day or two. Clients are typically asked to avoid sweating, direct sunlight and products containing alcohol after treatment, to wait three to five days before washing the scalp, and to wait at least ten days before swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms. Sunscreen or a hat, regular moisturizing and a fragrance-free shampoo are suggested. Facial micropigmentation and women's scalp micropigmentation are described as semi-permanent, typically lasting two to five years, with touch-ups recommended. SMP does not promote hair growth; it replicates follicles to give the look of a shaved head.
