Salty Mane opened in 2017. It was founded by owner and stylist Liana Mia as an alternative to the traditional salon, with a focus on personal, one-on-one service. The studio sits on a palm-lined street in Santa Monica, and the salon describes its look as casual yet luxurious.

During appointments clients can have a cold drink. Every stylist works independently, and the studio publishes a 48-hour cancellation and no-show policy that applies to all of them. Changes or no-shows within 48 hours of an appointment, or on the day of it, carry a fee of half the booked services.

The menu runs in four groups: cuts and styling, color, specialized treatments and add-ons, and extensions. Color work centers on balayage, which can be finished with pops for extra lightening on the ends, along with highlights, toner, face frame highlights and custom lightening. Listed prices start at $75 for a blowout or clipper cut and $135 for a haircut, with partial balayage and toner starting at $275 and full custom lightening at $560. Extensions are priced after a consultation.

Alongside the salon, Shop Salty sells hair products, clothing and accessories. The studio also runs an online store with apparel, haircare and hair tools, offers free US shipping on orders of $150 or more, and lists its contact email and phone number on the website.
