Richard Staab opened Salon Rouge in 2006 as a smaller boutique salon, after running D.Richard Salon, a large-scale salon in Uptown, for 17 years.

A visit starts with a consultation so clients know what to expect before any work begins. The salon says it aims to be honest with clients and to suggest styles that keep hair healthy. Its stylists are trained in the classics and enjoy experimenting beyond them.

Salon Rouge is appointment-only, and clients book by calling or texting the stylist they want to see. Clients are asked to arrive on time and call if they are running late; arriving more than 15 minutes late counts as a cancellation, and at least 24 hours' notice is requested for cancellations. The salon is open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Metered parking on the side streets is enforced from 9am to 6pm. Prices vary by stylist, and a full price list is linked from the services page.
