Salon One

Salon One is on Minnetonka Boulevard in St. Louis Park. The salon describes itself as small, women-owned and neighborhood-based, and it houses a group of independent stylists under one roof. It welcomes clients of all genders, races, abilities and creeds.

The building began in the 1960s as the Taj Mahal Salon, opened by Josef, a German stylist. In 1972 it became Jurgen's Salon when stylist Jurgen and his wife Gretl bought it. In 2014 RJC Services acquired the salon and it became a stylist-owned co-op. In 2023 Julie Morowczynski renamed it Salon One, after a salon she had previously owned in St. Louis Park. In 2024 JuliAnn became the owner after three years working alongside Julie and Gretl.

Walk-ins are welcome, though availability varies, so booking ahead is the surest way to get a time. Hours run Monday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm, Friday from 9am to 2pm, and Saturday from 9am to 5pm, with Sunday by appointment. Cancellations made up to 24 hours before a service are accepted; cancellations inside 24 hours are charged 50% of the scheduled cost. The salon offers free parking, refreshments for guests and shared music playlists, and it sits three blocks from a Caribou and a Starbucks.

The salon also rents chairs to stylists, full time or part time. Rentals are month-to-month with no deposit. Each chair includes towel service, backbar shampoo, WiFi and utilities, a style chair, a mat, cabinets or drawers, a stool and storage. The open-concept space has natural light and high ceilings. Renters receive keys, have no restrictions on their schedules, and can work with experienced educators and mentors.

Stylists keep up with ongoing education in cut and color styles and techniques, and each one works as an independent professional within the salon.
