Salon Nyla has been operating in Portland for more than 40 years. Founder Nyla opened her first salon in 1984 and has since stepped away from ownership into semi-retirement. Long-time stylist Gina Jones became the new owner and runs the salon with its stylists and nail technician. The salon describes itself as Portland's premier hair salon and as the city's go-to Aveda Concept Salon for high-quality color.

Hair is the main focus. Services run from clipper and precision cuts through single and dual process color, foil highlights, lowlights, balayage and custom fantasy color, to perms, silk presses and blowouts. Every hair service includes a scalp massage, a customized shampoo and conditioner made with Aveda products, and a rough blow dry.

Skin care includes several facials, from a 60-minute customized facial with 20 minutes of focused work on one area to a dual exfoliation peel that combines mechanical and biochemical exfoliation. Eye treatments and a plant-based peel can be added to a facial. Nail services cover manicures, pedicures, gel polish, builder gel overlays, Gel-X extensions and a range of nail art. Waxing and Swedish or deep tissue massage round out the menu.

Visits are by appointment only, arranged through the salon coordinator. A credit card and a $30 deposit are required to book. Clients are asked to give at least 48 hours' notice if they cannot keep an appointment, and a no-show or late cancellation is charged 50% of the service price to the card on file. The salon is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is closed Sundays. Secure garage parking is available under the building, with the entrance on Ankeny between SE 102nd and 103rd; the garage code is given on request.

Uses Aveda hair products throughout, with a scalp massage built into every hair service and prices based on shoulder-length hair of typical density.
