Salon Modern Classics

Salon Modern Classics operates as a collective of independent beauty professionals in Overland Park, with each person working for themselves under one roof. The team includes hair stylists and nail technicians, and estheticians also work in the salon.

Full-time booth rental is $200 per week, with no contract and week-to-week terms. Full-time renters receive two weeks of vacation each year. The renter package includes a station with a locker, an extra back bar color locker, and a small personal locker in the break room, along with capes, towels, facial wax products, backbar styling products, and color bowls and brushes. Renters earn a 10% commission on retail product sales.

The space has a large waiting room, two accessible bathrooms, and three TVs for clients. Four dryer chairs, shampoo bowls with stand-behind stations, and a front desk for checkout are also on site. Guests are offered coffee, water, Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite, and backbar and alcohol are available at an additional cost.

Retail brands include Alluram, Color Wow and Unite. According to the salon, its online reviews bring in new clients every day. Mel Jordan owns the salon and also works as a stylist.

The salon is organized as a collective, so each professional runs an independent practice within a shared space.
