Salon Dexterity, or SDX, is at 6108 Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth. The salon is owned by Ann Powders, and it describes its team as stylists who aim to bring out each guest's most confident look.
Education comes first at the salon. Stylists build their technical skills mainly through the Redken Specialist program and can attend the four-day, hands-on Redken Exchange in New York City. A stylist development program covers a business framework, leadership training and technical skills. A six-month Associate Program pairs newly graduated stylists with an Educator, and experienced stylists can become Educators who mentor Associates during that program.
Stylists work on commission and use the Summit Salon business system, a framework for goal-setting, budgeting, marketing and decisions. Stylists invest continuing education hours each year, both inside and outside the salon. A shared funding program helps stylists save toward that education, and class time does not use up Personal Hours.
Before a first visit, the salon often makes a short phone call to talk through goals, and color guests may be asked for photos of their hair. Each in-person visit opens with a 10 to 15 minute consultation to confirm the service plan and pricing. Stylists explain how to keep results up at home, and guests receive a follow-up call after a first visit. Prices vary by stylist, hair length and hair condition.
Reservations are held with a valid credit card or gift certificate number. The salon asks for 24 hours' notice to cancel. Cancellation or no-show fees are waived for a first offense, 50% for a second and 100% for a third. Appointments are confirmed 48 hours ahead, and the salon calls to confirm two business days before. Bridal parties, extensions and specialized treatments require a deposit at booking. Guests running late should call so the stylist can be alerted, and the service may be shortened to fit the time left.
Education leads the salon's work, from how stylists are trained and developed to how each guest's plan is discussed before service begins.
