Ritual Space

Amanda Claxton founded Ritual Space and opened the salon in February 2023, later finding its current home at the end of Jefferson Blvd in a vintage 1920s office complex. The salon is on the fourth floor, and free parking is available in the lot on the west side of Polk Street.

The salon describes itself as eco-friendly and low-toxicity, and says it works with premium organic indie product lines. Its stated aim is to create affirming hairstyles for all people while causing less harm to the planet and to clients. Color services are created with the Original & Mineral color line, and the products and services are cruelty free and free of phthalates, parabens, PPD, ammonia and synthetic fragrance.

A new client haircut includes a consultation, scalp care, a cut, and a blow-dry or diffuser style, and is booked as a 120-minute appointment. Returning clients can book a full-length visit or a shorter cut-only appointment, a bang trim or a touch-up. Color services always include a cleanse and a blow-dry style. First-time color clients need a consultation, in person or virtual, before booking. Stylists are matched to clients by hair texture and type.

Services are booked by time at each stylist's hourly rate, with no gratuity and no add-on fees for color. Prices are the same for everyone, with no separate men's or women's pricing. Cancellations made at least 24 hours ahead carry no fee; later cancellations are charged the full service price, and arriving more than 15 minutes late falls under the same policy. If a client is not fully happy with their hair, adjustments are offered within seven days of the appointment. Gift cards come in $50, $75, $100, $200 or custom amounts and are final sale. Buy Now, Pay Later options such as Klarna and Affirm are available for bookings in the $50 to $4,000 range.

The salon offers Silent Ritual and Mirrorless Ritual add-ons for a quieter, less visual experience, along with fidgets, earplugs, free wi-fi, and laptop tables with charging. Fresh brewed local coffee, tea, seltzer and hard kombucha are available. Donation haircut days are held every three months on a Sunday, with all proceeds going to a local Dallas fund, mutual aid group or charity. The salon also hosts classes, fundraisers and neighborhood events year-round, including RitualCraft(ers), a monthly meet-up where people bring their own creative projects.
