Revolve Hair Studio is a neighborhood salon in Portland, Oregon, run by its owner and stylist Jessi. The space is semi-private, about 350 square feet, with one shampoo station and two styling chairs, so it feels calmer and less busy than larger salons. Plants fill the room, and the salon is designed for a relaxed visit.

Color is the core of the work. Services cover highlights, lowlights, ombre, balayage, root melt, light ends and grey root coverage, using a base color with highlights to blend grown-out roots. Color is priced by how much product is needed, and each service includes a shampoo and blow-dry. Clients who want to go more than two shades lighter or darker, or who already have color in their hair, need a corrective color consultation first. The salon does not focus on vivid colors, and it has used low-toxic color exclusively for over ten years.

Haircuts are cut with razor and scissor techniques and are priced from $79 to $95, depending on length, density and the time needed. Pricing is gender-neutral, and a long hair option adds styling time for an additional cost. Each cut includes a shampoo with aloe-based Loma products, a blow-dry and a styling session, with curling or flat-iron styling added when time allows. Free adjustments are offered for seven days after the service, and clients receive one complimentary bang or neck trim between appointments. Gender-affirming haircuts and silent haircuts are both offered.

The salon says it is Green Circle Salon certified and that it recycles 95% of its beauty waste. It also describes itself as carbon-neutral. Color uses Original Mineral from Australia, along with other low-tox brands the salon partners with. Styling products are organic and fragrance-free, and shampoo, conditioner and styling products can be refilled. The salon uses eco-friendly laundry sheets, glassware instead of disposable cups, cloth towels in the restroom and secondhand decorations.

Appointments are booked online only, and the salon does not take walk-ins. First-time clients reserve their slot by booking and paying a 50% deposit. Reminder emails go out 48 hours before an appointment, and a text follows 24 hours before, asking clients to confirm or reschedule. Changes need at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations, missed appointments, and arrivals more than 15 minutes late may be charged 50% of the booked service. Children under ten must be accompanied by an adult. Gift certificates can be purchased in any amount. Guests are advised to find street parking, though spaces are also available off NE Sumner on the north face of the building. A bus stop sits directly outside.

The salon describes its approach as a human-centered process with clear communication, and aims for clients to leave feeling uplifted, relaxed and more confident.
