RĒNU Day Spa began in Highland Park in 1986 as a one-woman business called Anna's Electrolysis, focused on hair removal. It moved to Deerfield in 1988 under the name Renu Body Boutique, offering full-service skin care, massage, body scrubs and wraps. In 1998 it relocated to a 5,000 square foot building designed as a spa and took the name Renu Day Spa, adding aromatherapy and Ayurvedic treatments at that time. The spa describes its approach as caring for the body with gentle products made from natural and organic ingredients. It calls itself earth friendly and says it aims to teach clients about healthy habits. The spa says it employs more than 30 licensed estheticians, therapists and technicians, and that every employee is certified to treat immunosuppressed clients. Facials range from the Essential and Deep Cleansing treatments to anti-aging options such as microdermabrasion, peels, collagen and microcurrent lifting, and the Hydrafacial line, which runs from the Signature Hydrafacial at $179 to the Platinium Hydrafacial at $299. Men's facials, teen acne treatments and a Maskne series for skin affected by masks are also offered. Dermaplaning is available as a standalone treatment or within a longer facial, and Discovery Facials let the client and esthetician choose the treatment together on arrival. Massage options include Swedish-style relaxation, deep tissue, sports, hot stone, cupping, Indian head massage, reflexology, prenatal and postpartum massage, couples massage and aromatherapy. Many massage services are booked by calling the spa rather than online. The spa recommends 15 minutes in its steam room before deep tissue massage, which costs an extra $12 for non-members. Clients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork, and treatments start exactly at the booked time, so a late arrival may mean a shorter service to keep the next appointment on schedule. The spa is a cell phone free space. Cancellations and reschedules need at least 24 hours' notice. Gratuities are optional and accepted in cash or check only. Visa, Mastercard and Discover are accepted. Parking is on site, and when the lot is full guests may park on the street or in the nearby Shake Shack lot. Product returns are accepted within 72 hours with a receipt, credited to a spa gift card. For hygiene, hand and foot implements are single-use and clients may take them home. Metal tools are autoclave sterilized and packed in sterile individual pouches. Waxing spatulas are discarded after each use, and the spa does not double dip.
