About

Rebirth Massage was established in 2011 and is owned by Joanna, who is also a massage therapist, herbalist and doula. The business describes itself as a wellness center that uses traditional healing methods in a contemporary spa setting. It says it supports women looking for natural help with prenatal discomfort, fertility, uterine concerns and postpartum recovery, and that everyone is welcome. Clients travel from Carmel Valley, Rancho Peñasquitos, Poway, University City, La Jolla and Rancho Bernardo, and the business says it receives referrals from doctors, midwives, acupuncturists, naturopaths, physical therapists and chiropractors.

The menu centers on abdominal and pelvic work. Mayan abdominal therapy and Mercier Therapy are offered, and the owner is certified in both. Prenatal massage is offered from about 4 to 42 weeks of pregnancy, with positioning and pressure adjusted to each trimester. Postnatal abdominal therapy is booked at least 6 weeks after a vaginal birth or 3 months after a cesarean. A Cesarean birth massage is available a few days after a belly birth, and labor preparation massage is for clients at least 38 weeks pregnant. Herbal vaginal steam baths, also called yoni steams, are offered in private booths or for groups, and herbal blends can be customized by the business's herbalists. Light therapy for the womb and placenta encapsulation are also offered, and there is a placenta registration form.

A first visit usually begins with a review of intake information and a brief evaluation, followed by a session shaped around the client's goals and comfort. New clients can book a complimentary virtual evaluation to review their history, goals and treatment plan before coming in. Sessions can be modified for pain or discomfort, and clients may book at any time when they are in pain or stressed. Clients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, and late arrivals do not receive extra time. The business advises consulting a healthcare provider first if a pregnancy is high-risk or involves specific medical concerns.

The business also offers non-pregnancy work, including detox abdominal massage, manual and electro lymphatic drainage, deep tissue, relaxation massage and hot stone relaxation massage. Prenatal and postnatal massage memberships are billed monthly with a 3-month commitment, after which they can be cancelled with 30 days notice. First-time guests receive $10 off, and gift cards and packages are available.

Blends traditional Mayan abdominal techniques, prenatal bodywork, herbal support and evidence-informed bodywork, using organic oils and lymphatic flow principles, with gentle grounding and nervous system regulation included in sessions.
