About

Prickly Pear was started by husband and wife Kelley and Roroc, who wanted to share the benefits of electrolysis they had experienced themselves. Both are co-owners and both hold electrology certifications, and the business now operates four clinics across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in Flower Mound, Keller, Frisco and McKinney. The company describes its goal as helping everyone feel good in their skin.

Electrolysis is offered for bikini and intimate areas, face, ears and neck, legs, feet and toes, torso and body, and underarms and arms, along with beards, brows, and ear and back hair. The business says electrolysis works on blonde, gray, red and white hair. Clients are offered a 30-minute consultation to set up a plan for their skin, hair and budget, and a consultation is strongly recommended before any bikini work. Full bikini clearing typically takes regular sessions over 12 months or more, according to the site. Before an appointment, clients are asked to stop shaving or trimming two to three days ahead so the hair is about 1 to 3 mm long. Sessions are billed by time in blocks, from 15 minutes for $63 up to 120 minutes for $232. The site describes thermolysis as the method most clients prefer because it is faster and clears more hair per session, and it also lists blend and galvanic electrolysis.

A visit takes place in a private treatment room with an Apilus xCell epilator and a treatment table. Clients are given a spa wrap during sessions and may keep their shirt, socks and loose underwear on. Each clinic has a reception area where clients can wait and do light virtual work. Electrolysis is offered to male, female, non-binary and transgender clients. Weekday hours are 9 am to 7:30 pm, and weekend hours are 10 am to 4:15 pm. The Keller clinic sits in a single-story building across the parking lot from the Keller Chamber of Commerce, the McKinney clinic has parking directly in front of its building, and the Frisco clinic is in a newer single-story building. The Flower Mound clinic is near Kohl's.

Skincare centers on Intraceuticals oxygen facials, which use patented hyperbaric oxygen technology with 95 percent pure oxygen delivered through an airbrush and include hyaluronic layering for hydration. A Classic facial takes about 50 minutes, and the Signature option focuses on hydration while the Clarity option is for oily, blemish-prone or combination skin. Deluxe facials run 70 minutes and are customized around a chosen focus, with one complimentary add-on up to $55 in value. Most clients return to normal activities right after a facial, though skin may look slightly red or warm for a few hours. Sunscreen or a hat is recommended afterward, since some active ingredients can raise sun sensitivity for a few days. Many clients book one facial a month, and the frequency can be adjusted.

Skin consultations are 45 minutes and include a full skin analysis and a personalized daily routine, and clients may bring their own products for review. A 30-minute Skin Check-In with the medical esthetician supports clients who already have an analysis and routine. Dermaplaning, a 30-minute treatment by the medical esthetician, removes peach fuzz and dead skin. Blemish removal uses non-invasive RF treatment for moles, skin tags, warts, cherry angiomas, keratosis, milia, cysts, spider veins and sebaceous hyperplasia. Money-saving packages combine facials, at-home products and permanent hair and blemish removal, and they can be purchased online.

The clinics follow handwashing and single-use gloves for every appointment, sanitized tables covered with linen or paper drapes, and single-use sterile probes. Tweezers are ultrasonically cleaned, packaged and autoclaved, and tools are sterilized daily under Texas state board and health regulations. Staff keep their professional designations through regular in-person courses, online training, lectures and seminars.

Private treatment rooms and a calm reception area in a clinical setting that the business describes as relaxing and professional.
