Precise Scalp Micro was founded by Gabriel Barboza, who found SMP in 2017 and has since treated clients and begun teaching the method. The business also appears online as Precise Micro Scalps and PRECISEMICROSCALPS.

For men, SMP is applied to replicate the look of shaven hair follicles. For women, the aim is to shade targeted areas so the contrast between hair and bare scalp is softer. Men's work is usually spread over two to five treatments of one to four hours each, depending on prior hair loss, while women normally need two or three sessions spaced seven to ten days apart. Listed bundles include a Side Edge-up bundle at $700, a Hairline Restoration Bundle at $1,500, a Scalp Micropigmentation 3-Session Bundle at $2,550, and a touchup at $400 for returning clients only. The FAQ puts typical SMP costs between $1,800 and $3,500, not including scar work, which is priced case by case. Treatments take place in a private room, using pre-packaged, single-use sterile needles. Pigment color is matched on a gray scale for most clients, and treatments are offered for very pale to very dark skin tones and for red, blonde and gray hair. Clients under 18 need parent or guardian consent, and young adults may be treated with consent. For the first four days, clients avoid touching, showering or shaving the treated area, apply aftercare ointment twice daily, and avoid gardening and animal contact. According to the FAQ, SMP pigment can be removed with an electro-optic Q-switched laser.

Training is in-class and hands-on, and the site says it covers everything the owner uses in his own business. Courses include a 4-day SMP Fundamentals plus Advanced course at $3,500, a 3-day SMP Fundamental course at $2,500, a 1-day SMP Advanced course at $2,000 and a 1-day refresher at $1,000. Courses lead to SMP certification, and the site states that a license is not required to start an SMP business. Graduates get access to an online dashboard of SMP video lessons, and students can return for more hands-on help after a course.
