Power Pulse Electrology offers electrolysis, a method of permanent hair removal, from its studio on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles. The studio is open every day of the week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and clients can text or call, or use the contact form, to book.
Electrolysis works by inserting a fine probe into each hair follicle and applying electrical current to destroy the root. Each follicle is treated on its own, and the method can be used on any part of the body. The studio also offers hair removal for trans and non-binary clients as part of gender-affirming care, and lists PCOS-related hair growth and hirsutism among the common reasons people come in.
Hair grows in cycles, so most body areas need one to two years to be fully cleared. How many visits are needed depends on hair cycles, hormone levels, medications and genetics. As fewer hairs remain, appointments become shorter and further apart. Depending on the treated area, a session can last anywhere from 15 minutes to a little over an hour. Clients can apply a topical numbing cream, and the studio offers several device settings to suit comfort needs. Lidocaine injections are an optional add-on; a registered nurse administers them for an additional fee, and they must be booked ahead of time. The studio works with an xCell Pro 27.12 MHz device, which has a touch screen and creates personalized treatment programs.
Aftercare is covered in detail. Redness and mild swelling usually fade within a few hours, and small scabs can form over some treated areas and should be left to fall off on their own. Occasional bruising, tenderness, or temporary darkening of the skin may occur. The studio suggests avoiding makeup and perfume on the area for 24 hours, skipping chlorinated pools for 48 hours, and limiting sun exposure for 72 hours. Clients are asked to arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and about three to four days of hair growth, and to avoid alcohol the night before. A website before-and-after gallery is also available.
Each follicle is treated individually with a fine probe, and the plan is spread over months to match how hair grows in cycles.
