The practice has served North Texas for sixty years. It was founded more than sixty years ago by optometrist Sanford Pick, OD, FAAO (1923 to 2006), and is now owned and run by Clarke D. Newman, OD. The practice describes itself as a teaching practice.
Routine care covers the whole family, from young children to older adults. Eye exams screen for signs of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma and cataracts. The practice suggests a routine eye exam about once every two years, and patients with a diagnosed eye condition are usually advised to come once or twice a year.
Contact lens exams look at eye health, how a lens fits and aligns, and lens power, and include questions about the patient's lifestyle. Lens options include daily disposable, daily wear and extended wear lenses, along with multifocal, toric and cosmetic lenses. For harder-to-fit eyes, the practice fits custom soft and gas-permeable lenses, hybrid lenses, small diameter gas-permeable lenses and scleral lenses. The in-office optical carries hundreds of frames in many styles and price ranges, including sunglasses, and frame choice takes budget, medical needs and lifestyle into account. An online store is also available.
Specialty care includes glaucoma management, covering screening, judging severity, examining damage and ongoing management. The practice notes there is no official cure for glaucoma but says treatments can manage, slow or halt its progression. Other specialty services include keratoconus management, myopia management for children using atropine eye drops, orthokeratology, multifocal soft contact lenses or multifocal glasses, treatment of pink eye, dry eye management, treatment of digital eye strain, and intense light pulse therapy. Vision rehabilitation is offered for patients with corneal transplants or failed refractive surgery.
For refractive surgery, the practice offers LASIK, PRK and bifocal intraocular lens consultations, with pre-operative consultation and post-operative care. It co-manages LASIK surgery with surgeons and uses the Oculus Pentacam to scan the front and back of the cornea when assessing candidacy. When LASIK is not a suitable option, alternatives are offered.
New patients receive a full assessment from the doctor, and the new patient form can be completed before the first visit. Appointments can be booked online or requested through the website. Office hours are Monday to Friday, with Thursday opening at 8:30AM, and the office is closed on weekends. Patients receive three hours of free parking in the Plaza of the Americas Garage, entered from San Jacinto Street. The exam room is wheelchair accessible, and the practice states it complies with the No Surprises Act of 2022.
Describes itself as a teaching practice that concentrates on complex contact lens fits, corneal conditions and refractive surgery care.
