Pelokitos was founded in 1999 by two brothers who are hairdressers. It began as a family hair salon and later shifted its focus to children. The business says it has been cutting children's hair for 27 years and describes itself as more than a haircut stop, with play and experience built into the visit.

The concept draws on Montessori ideas. The aim is to give parents and children time together during the haircut and to care for the environment in the way the salon works. Locations include free play areas and guided workshops for different age groups, and the spaces are open and built for children, with a central tree-shaped structure and furniture at child height. The salon offers no tablets or screens for children.

A children's haircut at Pelokitos is unhurried and includes play during the appointment. A first haircut package includes a certificate, a keepsake lock of hair and a photo. Parents can have their own haircut in the chair beside their child's during the same appointment. Other services include quick buzz cuts for children and babies, bangs trims between full cuts, and styling and braids for birthdays, school events and everyday wear, with color that washes out with water.

Prices are shown once a customer selects a location during booking. Customers can pay a deposit online toward part of the haircut for a preferential online price, and a coupon book of pre-bought haircuts offers savings of up to 30% compared with single-visit prices. A free family account gives discounts, queue priority, gifts for children and a spin-the-wheel prize at each visit, and members can keep the same stylist for their child on every visit. Toys from partner brands and custom children's furniture are listed as coming soon.

The concept is inspired by Montessori and aims to connect parents' time with their children while caring for the environment during the haircut. The business says it chooses products with natural ingredients, eco-friendly packaging and responsible suppliers.
