Outdo began in 2008 under the name Donna Marie products, named for the founder's grandmother. Ayanna, a licensed cosmetologist with more than 15 years of experience styling natural hair, started the brand. The founder renamed the products Outdo shortly after opening the Outbar salon in 2017, which was set up to address a shortage of products for healthy textured hair that also cut down on styling time.

The salon describes itself as a hair freedom movement that encourages people to wear their hair however they like. Its term for any hairstyle worn freely, such as a blowout, twistout or curlout, is an Outdo. The business says it celebrates the range of textured hair and aims to offer options for different ways of wearing natural hair, whether curly or straight.

Stylists cleanse, condition, treat and style each client's hair. The salon describes its team as texture experts. Services listed are the Curl Discovery Package, the Curly Bomb + Cut and the Silk Press + Trim.

The product line follows a three-step routine of cleanse, condition and then style. Its products are designed for kinky, curly, wavy and straight hair and are presented as quick to use. Booking works on a monthly cycle. Current clients get priority booking from the 15th for the following month, and new clients can book from the 1st to the 15th of the current month if space is available.
