OS Salon is a family-run business that began in 2010 on Oak Street in Mahomet. The co-owners, Allison and Brandon, are siblings who grew up in Geneva, and the salon has since grown to four locations. The Geneva salon was chosen partly because the co-owners had lived there with their parents.

The salon's stated mission is to do work it loves for the community where it lives. The Mahomet location, previously known as Oak Street Salon, is in an older house that has been updated as the business grew, and the team there is described as quirky, energetic and active locally. All stylists at Mahomet and St. Charles take part in an ongoing in-salon training program, which the salon says has received national recognition from Salon Today magazine.

Color is a large part of the menu, with all-over color, root touch-ups, highlights, balayage, corrective color and eyebrow tinting. Cuts cover women, men, teens, younger children and beard and bang trims. Styling includes blow-dries, curls, formal styles and bridal up-dos, and bridal parties can complete a planning form online. Hair and makeup can be done on-site for bridal parties at $120 per stylist.

Hair extensions are offered to add length, volume and fullness, using hand-tied weft, infinity weft or I-tip keratin installation, priced at consultation. Makeup covers day, night and formal looks in either airbrush or traditional application. Mahomet also offers Aveda-inspired facials, body waxing and lash enhancements, which are not available at the other locations.

Appointments can be booked online, and gift certificates are sold on the website. Changes or cancellations need at least 24 hours notice by phone, and a late cancellation or no-show may be charged 50% of the booked services. Bloomington and Geneva are open Tuesday through Saturday with Geneva also open Monday morning, and Mahomet and St. Charles keep Tuesday through Saturday hours; each location lists its own times.

The salon works with Aveda products and focuses on serving the local community where each location sits, with stylists trained through an ongoing in-salon program.

Bloomington feels cozy yet elegant with modern touches, Geneva has a modern rustic French style that aims to be elegant but welcoming, and Mahomet is relaxing and comfortable with an Aveda scent throughout.
