OC Sugaring & Skin

The studio began offering organic sugaring in Orange County in 2010, when founder Karie Hull started the practice under the OC Sugaring & Skin name. The studio says that for many years it was one of very few places in the county offering organic sugaring. Jenifer Eddy and Maddy Eddy later took over the studio from Karie Hull, and Jenifer Eddy designed the space in a coastal cowgirl-inspired style.

The studio describes itself as a boutique hair removal space for South Orange County. It is set up to feel like a calm yoga studio or spa, a place where clients can set their daily concerns aside for the length of a visit. The studio says it is body positive and welcomes clients of all body shapes, sizes, ages and races, with the aim that everyone leaves feeling comfortable, positive and confident.

Sugaring is done with a paste made from sugar, water and lemon. The paste is applied at body temperature rather than hot, and it is water-soluble, so it is cleaned up with water and leaves no sticky residue. The studio says the paste is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. Gloves are worn for every treatment, a fresh ball of paste is used for each client, and hair is removed in the direction it grows. The studio describes its cleaning before and after each service as thorough.

The studio says sugaring is less painful than waxing and does not burn or peel the skin. It recommends topical options such as My Skin or tea tree oil to help prevent ingrown hairs. Clients are asked to let hair grow out at least a quarter inch before booking, and to allow about two weeks of growth after shaving or four weeks after waxing or sugaring.

Booking requires a valid credit card on file. Reminder emails go out 48 hours ahead, with a text the day before for clients who have not confirmed electronically. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are charged half the reserved amount, and no-shows are charged the full treatment. Clients have a five-minute grace period for late arrivals. Appointments of 90 minutes or longer take a 50% deposit that is applied at checkout, and a 20% gratuity is added to them. Guests under 18 need parental consent for bikini and Brazilian services, along with a signed waiver, and a parent must be present at the first appointment and, for clients 16 and under, in the service room during those services. Refunds are not offered for services because hair growth cycles vary. Product sales are final, except that damaged products can be exchanged within 10 days of purchase.
