About

Dr. Trent McKinney joined the practice of Dr. Richard A. Conroy in August 2005, and Dr. Conroy retired in 2012. The current building was bought in 2016, when renovations and a rebrand began. The on-site optical facility, now called Oasis Optical, was established in 1994 under its earlier name, Optical Impressions. Oasis Med Spa started inside the practice to offer dry eye treatments and later opened to aesthetic services.

The practice describes its focus as dry eye disease and keeping the whole eye healthy, and says it aims to treat each patient with respect and tailor care to their needs. Its medical services cover general exams from age 4 and up, diabetic eye exams, dry eye exams, glaucoma care including diagnostic imaging and visual field analysis, macular degeneration, flashes and floaters, corneal disease, eyeglass prescriptions, after-cataract laser treatment and astigmatism correction. The practice describes its care as using state-of-the-art technology.

Surgical care includes small incision cataract surgery, and a personalized surgical plan is built for each cataract patient. Lens options include toric and premium implants, presbyopia-correcting implants, standard monofocal implants, monovision, and limbal relaxing incisions for low degrees of astigmatism. Presbyopia-correcting implants and toric IOLs are not covered by insurance and carry an out-of-pocket cost. CareCredit financing is offered.

Optical services at Oasis Optical include one-on-one consultations for measuring and fitting eyewear, along with progressive, bifocal and no-line bifocal, computer, piano and polarized lenses, thinner lenses, anti-reflective coatings and high-quality reading glasses. Oasis Optical also fills doctors' prescriptions and handles contact lens orders.

Appointments can be requested through an online form, and the team says it responds as soon as possible. New patients are asked to complete the new patient forms online within 7 days of their visit. Forms are available for medical release authorization and for an OCT screening ahead of an established patient's annual exam. The office is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am to 5pm, Wednesday 8am to 4pm and Friday 8am to 3pm. Parking and handicap access are available, and the office is easy to reach from Sarasota, Venice, Englewood, Nokomis, North Port and Osprey. The website also hosts patient education articles on cataracts, dry eye, flashes and floaters, blepharitis, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Centers on dry eye disease and overall eye health, with care tailored to each patient and delivered with respect.
