Insurance is a large part of the service. The business verifies benefits, prepares prescriptions, codes, claim language and submission, and files the claim from start to finish. Clients can choose one of two routes. Under Insurance First, the business verifies benefits and files the claim, and the client picks a wig once the insurer responds, usually within 30 to 45 days. Under Direct Purchase, the client chooses and pays for a wig right away, and the business files the reimbursement claim. The business does not guarantee coverage, since coverage varies by plan, though it says insurance often covers a significant portion of a medical wig. Insurers, FSAs and HSAs recognize the term cranial prosthesis, so the prescription should use that wording, and a medical wig is usually an eligible expense for FSA or HSA funds. A free insurance coverage check and a free 15-minute call are offered before any purchase.
A visit is private and one client at a time, with no waiting room or shared space. Clients may keep a hat or scarf on for the whole consultation. Pricing is discussed openly, and the business says its fittings carry no commission pressure. Each wig is hand-selected and adjusted to the client's coloring, texture and daily life, then fitted until it looks natural. Most wigs go home the same day. Specialty colors, custom cap sizes or pieces that are out of stock usually take one to two weeks.
Wigs are offered in four price tiers, starting at $1,100 for Foundation, $1,740 for Essentials, $2,300 for Reserve and $2,752 for Signature. The price depends on length, density, cap construction and customization, and the business says most clients spend between $2,100 and $3,200. A men's line is listed as coming soon.
The business also runs Comfort Care, which sells products for people in treatment, including a lip balm for chemo lips, Manuka skin cream, blankets for infusion rooms, and hats and scarves. Comfort drawings are open to U.S. residents 18 and older, with no purchase necessary. A comfort blanket is drawn monthly and a custom cranial prosthesis is drawn quarterly. Personal and insurance information is kept confidential, and the business says it does not sell personal information. It shares information only with insurers and service providers as needed or as the law requires. The site also has a blog on medical wigs, cranial prosthesis care and insurance coverage.
