Run by Riley, an electrologist and registered nurse, New Body Electrology works from a location on NW Laidlaw Road in Portland. The practice offers all four main electrolysis methods, so the method can be matched to the hair, the skin and the area being treated.
Each client begins with a complimentary consultation covering goals, a look at skin and hair, and the choice of method, which is where the treatment plan is set. During sessions, settings are adjusted to the client, the pace is set around them, and comfort options are offered. Longer visits are possible depending on comfort, pain tolerance and whether a pain reliever is used. If numbing cream is used, it goes on 30 to 60 minutes before treatment.
Pricing is by time: 15 minutes or less is $40, 30 minutes is $75, 45 minutes is $100, one hour is $120, and two hours or more is $110 per hour. The hourly rate is the same wherever on the body the work is done. The practice cannot bill insurance directly, but it provides a bill clients can submit to their insurer and will help with reimbursement.
Some skin conditions need a doctor's approval before treatment. Clients who are ill with a communicable disease are asked to let the practice know so the appointment can be rescheduled. Afterward, clients are advised to avoid touching the treated area and to skip lotions and makeup for the first 24 hours.
The business notes that electrolysis has been practiced since 1876. It describes itself as a space where all bodies are respected and identities are affirmed, and it serves people of all genders, skin tones and hair types, including trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse clients.
Methods are matched to each client at consultation, with settings and pace adjusted during the session.
Described as an open space for trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse people, where identity is respected.
