The school was founded in 1960 in Villa Park, Illinois. Its Hillside branch opened in 2002, and after the Villa Park campus closed in December 2014, the main campus moved to Hillside in 2015. Euretta Ivy bought the school from Philp Sparaga in 2014. She is a licensed cosmetologist who trained at the academy and became its Director and Campus Manager when the Hillside branch opened.

The cosmetology program requires 1,500 hours and covers haircutting, color, chemical services, styling, textured hair styling, skincare, makeup, nail services, salon management, sanitation and infection control. Training also includes wigs and weaves, braiding, updos and hair treatments. Students can finish in as little as 12 months, depending on their schedule. The school describes its textured hair training as a particular strength.

Other programs include a 300-hour braiding course covering classic and trending styles, box braids, feed-in braids and Senegalese twists, a 350-hour nail technology program with manicures, pedicures, nail art, gel and acrylic work, and an esthetics program covering facials, skincare, lash lifts and tints, brow lamination, waxing and makeup. Instructor courses are available for licensed cosmetologists and nail technicians, and continuing education courses serve working professionals.

The salon menu is grouped into blowouts, braids and locs, chemical services, haircuts, nail services, skin care, specialty services, weaves, wet sets and packages. Salon services are performed by students under the supervision of licensed and experienced professionals, and esthetics students work on supervised clients in the school's student salon. Appointments are booked by phone.

The school aims to prepare students for licensed work with hands-on training in small classes, with individualized attention.

The campus has classrooms, locker facilities, a student lounge, a clinic area for practical work and an individualized student center.
