Monster Locks

Monster Locks opened in April 2021 and describes its mission as an open space where anyone can be themselves and express their authenticity. The business says it is LGBTQIA+ friendly and welcoming to all clients.

The studio is inside Sola Studios and is fairly small. It generally has room for the client and one extra person, so appointments are preferably one-on-one, with exceptions made for anxiety or mental health reasons. A mini fridge with complimentary drinks is available, and clients may bring snacks, especially for long color sessions.

Color is the core of the business. Mystery Color is a creative coloring service offered at a discounted rate of $220 and includes more than four hours of work. With this service, the client hands the stylist creative freedom over the color choices. Haircuts and styling beyond blow drying are not included. Consultations are required before extensions, fashion and fantasy colors, and color correction or drastic color changes.

The shop sells hair accessories, hair extensions, lace front wigs, and digital sewing patterns. Hair care products carried include Maria Nila, Olaplex, K18, and Pulp Riot, which the business says are vegan and cruelty-free.

The studio aims to create a welcoming, judgment-free space where clients can explore change and express themselves through their hair.
