Monae's Universal Styles, also written Monaes UVS, is a loc care business at 1148 Fulton Ave in Sacramento. It is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm. The salon describes its experience as calm and relaxing, and says it wants every client to leave feeling recognized and appreciated.

Each client gets a personalized loc wellness plan. Appointments include three washes with salon-certified shampoo and conditioner, a relaxing steam treatment, facial sheet masks, and light snacks during the visit. Clients are also taught how to care for their locs between appointments.

Traditional loc care is performed by a loctician and tailored to maintain and strengthen locs. Reconstruction uses crochet techniques to restore strength to locs that need it. Retwists are recommended every 5 to 6 weeks for mature locs. If a retwist runs overdue, an extra fee applies: $25 for 3 to 4 months, $50 for 5 to 6 months, $75 for 7 to 8 months, and $100 for 10 to 12 months. Locs overdue by more than 12 months require a consultation to set the service and fee.

Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice are charged 50% of the scheduled service cost, and a deposit is required for the next booking after a late cancellation. A 15-minute grace period applies to late arrivals; after 20 minutes the appointment is canceled and a cancellation fee applies. No-call, no-show appointments are charged the full service cost. Clients should avoid marijuana, tobacco, vape pens and strong fragrances during visits, and guests who are not receiving a service may not come along. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and cash are accepted.

The salon also sells Herbs x Potions natural sprout oils, including lemongrass and peppermint, and a natural potion, priced from $10.00.
