Modern Beauty is a permanent makeup and aesthetics studio at 5320 Douglas Blvd., Suite 111, in Granite Bay. The studio is owned by Trina Pangilinan, who works there as an aesthetic nurse injector and permanent makeup artist, and it serves the greater Sacramento area and Northern California.

Brow work is the core of the menu and comes in three styles. Ombre powder brows use a machine to place small dots under the skin and can be tuned anywhere from a natural look to something more defined. Microblading uses a hand tool to draw fine, hair-like strokes that add fullness. Combo brows layer microblading strokes with machine shading. Lip blush is a permanent makeup procedure that adds color to the lips and helps define their shape.

On the skin side, microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. A numbing step comes first, then a handheld machine makes tiny punctures in the skin. The studio says the treatment is used for the look of wrinkles, pores, sun spots, texture, fine lines, scars and stretch marks. Saline tattoo removal uses a high-concentration saline with fruit seed extract to lighten and clear pigment. It is non-invasive, but the number of sessions cannot be set in advance and depends on the area and the pigment.

Booking starts with an online request through the appointments page. A $30 pre-booking consultation lasts 30 minutes and is credited toward the deposit if the client goes ahead. Every new appointment requires a non-refundable $100 deposit, with the balance due at the visit. Cash or Zelle is preferred, and paying by debit or credit card adds a 5 percent fee. Changes need 72 hours' notice, and later cancellations forfeit the deposit. No-shows are charged the full service and must pay a new deposit to rebook. Not every client qualifies for permanent makeup, so a qualification list is reviewed before booking. Brows previously done by another artist need approval from emailed photos first. Clients must be 18 or older, children and guests are not permitted at appointments, and the studio runs a strict 10-minute late policy. Water and sparkling water are offered, and outside food and drink are not allowed.

The studio aims to make each visit comfortable and informative from the first contact through the final appointment.
