Mizokami ACSL Therapy

Sylvia Mizokami started the business and developed the Mizokami-Advanced Circulatory Sports Lymphatic (MACSL) Technique. The San Clemente studio sits in the Spanish Village Business Center, facing Calafia State Beach on the opposite side of the road. It has operated since September 2013 and is the first location. The Brentwood studio is a short drive from the 405 and was selected because it is close to UCLA Health.

MACSL is a proprietary method that combines deep tissue, sports, lymphatic drainage and related massage techniques, aimed at improving lymphatic function and lymph fluid flow. The business says it can help the lymph system clear excess fluid and toxins and reduce inflammation, and it lists circulation, joint range of motion, lung capacity and immune support among the benefits it claims. Every massage uses organic, cold-pressed sesame oil. For a first visit, the business recommends booking 90 minutes or two hours and allowing 15 extra minutes for a consultation beforehand.

Beyond the full-body session there is a Tandem MACSL Treatment, in which two therapists work at once; the business says this gives twice the effectiveness and suits moderate to severe conditions or a stronger treatment, and it is booked by email. Pre-operation and post-operation treatments focus extra attention on the surgical area, and therapists are trained to work around incisions. Post-operation work is usually recommended at three to five sessions in the first two to three weeks after surgery. Pregnancy options include prenatal, postnatal and C-section post-op massage. The MACSL Sinus Treatment uses acupressure, shiatsu and lymph techniques on the face, head, neck and upper body, with an organic cleanser and essential oils, and a 15-minute scalp massage can be added for $15.

Facials and waxing are also offered. The Lymphatic Botnia Facial is a customized facial with a deep cleanse, enzyme mask, extractions when needed, a finishing mask and a neck and shoulder massage. A Lymphatic Mini-Facial can be added to a MACSL massage during the lower-body portion without extending the session. Waxing covers the face, body and legs. Near infrared sauna sessions, which run at 105 to 110 degrees with no added humidity, are available only at San Clemente and are booked in 60-minute reservations.

Practitioners are independent contractors who manage their own schedules. Clients who have a preferred therapist can text or call that person directly, and those unsure whom to see can use the contact form or call the office to be matched. Cancellations or changes more than 24 hours ahead are free, those 12 to 24 hours ahead are charged 50 percent of the treatment price, and no-shows or changes within 12 hours are charged the full amount.

The MACSL Technique aims to improve lymphatic function and increase lymph fluid flow, and the founder holds that a healthy lymphatic system is central to overall health.
