The brand was founded by Linda and Gary Dower, who opened the first Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Skaneateles in 2000. The business describes itself as a family-owned sanctuary. The buildings are arranged around the Monet Pond Garden and expansive manicured grounds, with a French manor house design inspired by an estate in the countryside near Paris. Sixteen guest rooms are in the Manor House and 34 hotel rooms are in the Guest House. Rooms have fireplaces, large bathrooms with walk-in showers, soaking tubs and double sinks, and views of the ponds and gardens, the Village Green or the golf course. Rooms have Frette linens, Mirbeau Estate mattresses, robes, slippers and Lavazza coffee, and guests can use 24-hour front desk service, evening housekeeping, onsite parking and EV chargers.

Spa Mirbeau is a 16,500 square-foot spa built beneath the Guest House. It has 20 treatment rooms with fireplaces and private sound systems, locker rooms with eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, a resting area with a heated foot bath, a silent, dark Reflection Room with a waterfall feature, a heated four-season Solarium, and a nail treatment room with leather manicure and pedicure stations. Treatments are best booked eight to ten weeks ahead, and guests check in at the Spa Desk on arrival. Spa guests must be 18 or older, and the spa is open daily from 6:00am to 9:00pm.

Dining is at The Bistro & Wine Bar, which is open to the public seven days a week and serves French-inspired menus with New England flavors, using in-season, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, Sunday brunch and dinner are served, and the dining room and heated outdoor patio overlook the Monet Gardens. The property also hosts corporate retreats, weddings, showers and social gatherings in its event spaces, with banquet menus prepared in the main kitchen.
