Mirage has operated continuously since 1988 from a grey house on 80th Street in Redmond. Laura Rux joined the salon straight out of school and later bought the business when her mentor retired, and she still works there as a beauty specialist alongside the other stylists.

The salon is set up as a collective: each beauty specialist runs an independent business inside the shared space, and clients can book directly with any specialist using that person's own contact details. Clients come from Woodinville, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Issaquah and Kirkland as well as Redmond, and walk-in clients are welcome. Appointment availability varies by stylist, pricing varies by service and provider, and a consultation can be booked before committing to a new style or stylist. The salon is open seven days a week.

In 2021, half of the open chairs were converted into salon suite rentals. The space now includes 8 private suites, each with its own skylight and sliding glass barn door, and 8 open chair stations across two salon areas. Rent covers electricity, water, trash, laundry equipment, parking and WiFi. Shared amenities include community shampoo bowls, towels, a back bar, dryer chairs and storage, and there is a separate room for mixing color. Renters also receive front desk and marketing support and are listed on the salon website with links to their preferred contact method, booking service and social media.

The salon describes itself as relaxed and unpretentious, and calls its suite rental a newer boutique option in downtown Redmond. New client inquiries to the salon phone line are passed to specialists based on the service requested and their availability.
