The resort sits on land where the Cahuilla Indians are said to have found the mineral springs hundreds of years ago. In 1914, pioneer Cabot Yerxa uncovered the mineral waters on his property about a mile from the current hotel. Geologist and chemist Dr. Augustus Broue visited in 1938, analyzed the waters and praised them, and his remarks are part of the resort's history.
Mineral water comes up at an average of 140°F from aquifers roughly 300 feet below ground, and it is pumped at 200 gallons per minute. Before it reaches the pools and spas, it is cooled to somewhere between 90 and 104°F. According to the resort, it is the sole spot on Earth tapping hot and cold mineral springs together, and its water ranked first and second for taste at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition.
Guests can stay in one of 110 rooms, including 5 villas ranging from about 800 to 1,800 square feet, several with private pools, patios or jacuzzis. Rooms include 24/7 access to the mineral pools, a TV, a mini fridge, a microwave and complimentary Wi-Fi. Capri Italian Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily plus weekend brunch in a casual setting, with take-out and poolside dining. Trip Advisor and Palm Springs Life each named Capri Best Italian Restaurant for 2020, according to the resort, and Vogue listed the property in its Desert Elite Escapes feature.
The spa runs by appointment, and specialty massages need advance booking. Day passes to the courtyard are sold walk-in only and are included with any spa service. The property also hosts weddings, quinceañeras, meetings and corporate events, with four function spaces holding from 60 to 300 guests and catering menus tailored to each event, built around fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The resort builds its experience around its natural mineral springs, with the water cooled to bathing temperature before it fills the pools and spas.
A foothill setting minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, with views over Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
