About

Mimily is run by owner and nail artist Mika Nakamura, who runs the studio alone and works mainly in Japanese-style structure gel. The studio describes itself as the only Japanese nail artist in Massachusetts specializing in Japanese-style gel nails; that is the studio's own claim.

Every service uses a fill-in method combined with a hand-sculpted gel overlay. The gel is shaped with a brush before it cures rather than filed down afterward. On return visits the existing gel is not soaked off with acetone; a thin layer of base gel is left and filled in. The studio says this supports natural nail health and growth and suits thin, peeling, or damaged nails.

A visit begins with dry cuticle care using an e-file, trimming and shaping, a warm towel, and cuticle oil, which every gel service includes. First-time clients book a 30-minute consultation, priced individually. Custom designs need inspiration photos sent by Instagram direct message at least one week ahead, and appointments at 6:00, or 5:30 for services other than a solid color, are also arranged that way.

Structure gel work covers the menu here. Extensions can be built with either Gel-X or Diami to add length, and the service includes shaping and prep for the overlay. Individual extensions cost $3 per nail. Dip powder, acrylic, regular gel polish and regular nail polish are not offered.

The studio's approach puts natural nail health first, with materials chosen carefully. Before a product is used, its safety data sheet is reviewed, and the team leans toward 10-free formulas while keeping an eye on HEMA and TPO content.
