Materie is a hair salon in Pasadena, owned by Christine Choi and Montana Tsai. According to the salon, its two owners have more than 25 years of combined experience. The salon describes its aim as making strong hair work and art within a community built on respect, trust and professionalism.

Services cover haircuts, color, styling and treatments. Haircuts start at $110 and go up to $175 or more, color ranges from $85 to $650 or more, styling from $75 to $185 or more, and treatments from $40 to $475 or more. Final prices vary by stylist and are set after an initial consultation.

Booking requires a card on file or a non-refundable deposit. Changes made with 48 hours' notice let the deposit go toward the client's account, while cancellations with less notice, day-of cancellations and no-shows are charged in full for the booked service to the card on file.

The salon also rents space to independent professionals, including hairstylists, colorists, nail techs, brow techs, estheticians, massage therapists and tattoo artists. Rental options run from day rates to 30-day, 6-month and annual plans, and a 250-square-foot private suite is available. Clients can shop an online store or choose from select brands sold in the salon.
