About

Massage Masters opened at its Pharr address in 2006 and has operated continuously since then. It runs as a teaching clinic: the same building houses a massage therapy training program, and the clinic describes itself as one of the longest-running massage practices in the Rio Grande Valley. Sports, prenatal, lymphatic drainage and therapeutic massage were added to the menu in 2015.

Clients can book two kinds of session. Intern sessions with Swedish or deep tissue massage are performed by students in the final stage of the clinic's training, under direct supervision of a licensed therapist, and are priced at $45 and $55 per hour. Licensed therapist sessions start at $85 per hour for any service on the menu. The business states that intern fees help fund the school and licensed fees help fund the practice, and that this is why it has kept prices low since 2006.

Clients are draped with linens throughout, with only the area being worked on uncovered. Every price is for a full one-hour session, and longer sessions can often be arranged when you book. Walk-ins are welcome when a therapist is free, though calling ahead is recommended to secure a slot. Couples and friends can book together, and calling ahead lets two therapists be scheduled for the same time. Tipping is welcome but not expected, and cancellations made as early as reasonably possible carry no penalty.

The massage therapy school combines classroom study with a working clinic. Its curriculum covers anatomy and physiology, Swedish and deep tissue methods, pathology and contraindications, and business and ethics, and includes a clinical practicum with real clients under licensed supervision. No prior experience is needed to enroll, and the training is designed to prepare students for Texas Licensed Massage Therapist licensure through TDLR. Several therapists trained at the school and stayed on after licensure. Prospective students may visit without an appointment.

Massage Masters is a VA-approved massage therapy provider. Covered veteran sessions require an active VA authorization directed to the Pharr clinic, usually requested through a VA primary care doctor. With authorization, veterans pay nothing out of pocket for covered sessions and the business bills the VA directly; all veteran sessions are performed by licensed therapists. Veterans without authorization can also book at standard rates. Clinic and school licenses are issued by TDLR, and the clinic also hosts partner The Radiant Room, which offers weight loss programs and Botox treatments on site.

Operates as a teaching clinic in which supervised interns and licensed therapists work side by side, with a consultation before hands-on work.

A small, quiet, air-conditioned waiting area with water available, and free parking directly in front of the building.
