The 650-clock-hour program is made up of 250 hours of theory and 400 hours of practical training on site. Theory is completed online at the student's own pace, generally over four to five months. Some lectures take place in a classroom with a 60-inch screen for slides and video. Students must attend an orientation on their first day.
Practical training takes place in the school's own facility, which includes a reception area, a waiting room, a student break room and more than 1,000 square feet of instructional space. Each workstation has a treatment bed, a stool, a cart with a magnifying lamp and an epilator with accessories. A separate sanitation area has a dry-heat sterilizer and an autoclave. The school supplies the materials needed for the practical course.
Students are assessed as they go. Practical skills are tested at 60, 100 and 250 insertion hours, and at least 250 insertion hours are required to graduate. Graduation also requires 650 or more clock hours, an average score of 75% or more on online quizzes, passing written and practical final exams and, for Maryland students, three mock practical exams. Quizzes must be passed with a score of 75% or more, and failed quizzes are retaken in person, up to two times.
Graduates of the course may apply for professional certification in electrology with the Electrology Practice Committee of the Maryland Board of Nursing. The curriculum is built to prepare students for licensure as an electrologist in Maryland.
Theory is delivered online so students can work at their own pace, with hands-on skill building and regular practical testing in the school's own training space.
The school describes its learning environment as inclusive and welcoming to all people.
