Mary's Hair Design opened in 1989 and is run by owner and hairstylist Mary Niemann. The salon is located at My Salon Suite on U.S. Highway 19 North in Palm Harbor. According to the salon, it was one of the first hair salons in Clearwater to offer hair extensions.

The menu covers four areas: color, highlights and balayage paired with a cut and style; women's and men's haircuts, cut and style, and perms; tape-in and sew-in extension installation; and waxing for brows, lip and chin. Color services carry an extra charge when more than one color or a toner is used, or when hair is very long. Hair extensions are installed with hair purchased separately.

First-time clients are asked to book a complimentary consultation and price quote before their service. Extension pricing is set at that in-person consultation, and the free consultation can also be booked by phone. The salon is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
