Luminary Hair Studio focuses on hair loss and scalp concerns. It is set inside Legacy Salons on Keller Parkway in Keller, and it is owned by Karen Ransom, who moved into hair loss after many years working as a hairstylist.

The Hair+Scalp Assessment is a 60 to 75 minute visit at $125. The stylist reviews health history, lifestyle and recent changes in the hair, then examines the scalp and hair under a microscope. Scalp treatments are offered for oily, itchy or flaky scalps.

TED is a needle-free treatment that uses ultrasound and air pressure to deliver growth-supporting compounds into hair follicles. Each session takes about 30 minutes and is meant to anchor existing hair to reduce shedding and encourage new growth. Treatment is a series of three to six sessions spaced four weeks apart, with a minimum of three required for new clients. Pricing runs from $400 to $3,600 and depends on the type of treatment, its duration, how far the hair loss has progressed and how many sessions are needed. A 15 minute virtual TED Consultation helps determine whether someone is a good candidate. TED cannot be performed on people who are pregnant, taking blood thinners, have a history of blood clots, or have metal or a medical device implanted in the head or face. The business states a 98% success rate for TED, cites clinical studies showing a 20 to 60% increase in hair growth in affected areas, and says density improvement may be seen in as little as three months.

Consultations and treatments are one-on-one in a private setting. After a visit, clients receive an email summarizing what was discussed, including recommendations for home care, testing, in-salon services and referrals. The studio is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 5:00 by appointment, with after-hours visits available on request. It serves clients in Keller, Southlake and across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The salon's approach to hair health takes in both what happens inside the body and what surrounds it. Diet, stress levels, hormone balance, daily habits, shortfalls in nutrients and exposure to environmental pollutants are all considered as possible influences on the hair.
