About

The Long Island Beauty School has been preparing beauty professionals since 1941, which means it has been in operation for more than 80 years. The school calls itself the premier beauty school on Long Island. According to the school, industry professionals have recognized its graduates for more than 65 years.

Both campuses have full-service student salons where clients can book services performed by supervised students. Walk-ins are welcome at the student salon, and day and evening salon hours are available, though exact hours vary by location, so clients should call the campus for details.

Students can enroll full time or part time, on day or evening schedules. The Hauppauge campus offers hairdressing, cosmetology and nail specialty programs, and the Hempstead campus adds esthetics. Cosmetology and nail specialty are also taught in Spanish. The 250-hour nail specialist program is New York State certified, and the hairdressing, cosmetology and esthetics programs are stated to meet New York certification requirements. Students leave certified in Client Well-Being and Safety, and coursework includes domestic abuse and human trafficking awareness.

Beyond the classroom, the school hosts in-house career fairs with companies that hire graduates and offers job placement support. Financial aid is available to eligible students through grants, loans and scholarships, and the financial aid department guides students through applications with state and federal agencies and lending institutions. The school also hosts a New York Fashion Week boot camp for students.

Students learn through hands-on practice alongside classroom instruction, covering client analysis, cutting, coloring and skin treatments, along with the business skills needed to run a salon.
