About

Locke Hair was founded in 2003 by Amanda McClanahan under the name Naturally Pure, and has been based in Webster Groves since then. Amanda is the owner and creative director. The salon describes itself as a progressive leader in the beauty industry.

The salon's priorities are sustainability, inclusivity and client comfort. The goal is for every client to leave feeling confident, cared for and valued. Salon waste, including hair, foils, caps, gloves and color tubes, goes through a recycling and reclaiming partnership with SalonCycle, and the salon states that 99% of its waste is recycled, reclaimed or repurposed.

A haircut includes a wash, cut and style. Stylists talk through each client's needs and ideas before starting. Clients are asked to send photos of their current hairstyle and of looks they like ahead of the visit. The waiting area is spacious and comfortable, with complimentary cold and hot refreshments. Each stylist sets individual prices based on experience and the time a service takes, and detailed pricing questions can be texted to (314) 433-5333.

Locke Hair does not offer Brazilian Blowouts or keratin treatments, for ethical and sustainability reasons. Its in-house alternative is a service called Sweet Shampoo. New clients can book a haircut online or request color or a cut and color; returning clients book online. A card must be added to hold an online booking. Changes need 24 hours' notice, and late cancellations are charged half the service price, while no-shows are charged in full.

The salon works from sustainability, inclusivity and client comfort, with stylists discussing each client's needs and ideas before a service.

The setting is spacious and calm, with a welcoming, non-judgmental feel and a comfortable waiting area.
