Loc Art was started to present how locs can be cared for and styled well, and the Loc Art brand took shape in 2011. The studio was founded by MeMoonlight The Loc Whisperer, a master loctician, instructor and cosmetologist who now serves as owner.

The studio's approach to loc care rests on Loc Science, a method that starts from a person's natural hair pattern, follicles and texture. The salon says its maintenance method is taught only by its certified, trained staff and describes its loc training as the best available. These are the salon's own claims.

Services fall into three groups: hair care, hair color and hair styling. Hair care includes loc maintenance, loc express and starter locs. Color includes gray coverage, corrective color, permanent color and ombre or highlights. Styling includes braids, double strand twists, faux locs and loc extensions. Loc maintenance with a style and a shampoo if needed is $100 and takes about two hours, while a first-time visit for the same service is $120. The salon says it uses products it considers top quality.

Booking is done online. After booking, the loctician contacts you to request full payment to secure the appointment. CashApp, PayPal, Venmo and Zelle are accepted. Some services are only for first-time clients. The loc express and hair color service is limited to black or brown hair, and clients are asked to call 770-329-7135 before booking it.

The studio also runs loctician classes. The three-day course costs $1,100 per student and covers loc anatomy, hair textures and growth, common irritations and infections, and loc techniques. It also covers faux locs, soft braiding, shampooing and deep cleansing, client consultations and consent forms, and adding extensions, plus business topics such as commission versus booth rent, marketing and charging for services. The course ends with a written and practice exam on a mannequin head. Students receive a Loc Art handbook, interactive and live-model lessons, marketing materials, a completion certificate and free refreshers. It is open to licensed hair stylists, people with or without loc experience, and people who work in a salon or wear locs.
