Hair should be color-treated before locking, since there is a waiting period of 3 to 12 months when only the prescribed shampoo may be used, and clients may be asked to avoid swimming during that time. Every installation includes the consultation, the locking session and a complimentary 3-week follow-up with a mini retightening, and clients leave with a starter kit of shampoo, hair bands and written instructions. Retightenings are done every 4 to 6 weeks, generally take 2 to 4 hours, and only new growth is retightened.

Beyond Sisterlocks, the salon offers Brotherlocks, traditional locks services, including traditional interlock touch-ups and single lock repair, as well as emergency same or next day appointments with a 2-hour minimum. Cuts, trims, styling, color and shampoo services are also available. A Sisterlocks Retightening Class, taught in person or online by an R-Certified Sisterlocks Consultant, covers a 2-hour session with all supplies included and one month of free support afterward. Children are not allowed during installations and retightenings but may attend consultations. Smoking is prohibited on the premises.
