Licenders

Licenders began when its founder looked for a gentler way to remove lice from her daughter's hair. The business has operated since 1996 and works from an Upper East Side clinic at 185 E. 85th St, a Midtown clinic at 939 8th Ave, Suite 604, and a Stamford clinic in Fairfield County, Connecticut, for which the site gives no street address.

Treatment can be done at a clinic or at home. Technicians inspect the hair with magnifying light, comb it out one section at a time and check for nits, using a heated-air process to dehydrate and remove lice and their eggs. If lice are found, treatment starts during the same visit, and the business says children can return to school the same day. Free follow-up visits within a week check for re-exposure.

Families who prefer to stay home can book house calls in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Fairfield County, often the same day. Evening and weekend hours are offered, the clinics are open seven days a week, and school screenings bring technicians to a school to check children.

Delouse the House is a separate cleaning service for homes after a head lice infestation. It covers bedding, mattresses, upholstered furniture, rugs, stuffed animals, hair accessories, clothing and bathrooms. It is for head lice cleaning only. The business describes its cleaning products as safe and pesticide free.

The company describes itself as a pioneer in safe lice removal in New York City and Connecticut and cites more than 25 years of experience. It says its clinic staff are specially trained to work with children and that its technicians are certified lice technicians. The Licenders Insurance Plan is a monthly subscription for families with children, priced at $10 per month per child.
