About

Lanshin is a small Traditional Chinese Medicine practice at 129 Roebling Street in Brooklyn, a few blocks from the Bedford Avenue L train and a short walk from the Lorimer/Metropolitan station. The studio is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm Eastern, except on holidays. Treatments are booked by email. The practice was built around its founder, Sandra Lanshin Chiu, and its mission centers on the idea of an Original Face, meaning beauty understood alongside health, spirit and each person's own traits.

The Acupuncture Face Lift is a 75-minute session from $350 that combines cosmetic acupuncture on the face, neck, jaw and scalp with general body acupuncture. Before-and-after tracking is kept private for each client, and the session ends with facial gua sha or cupping. It is not a spa facial, so masking, steaming and extractions are not included. Facial areas treated with Botox are avoided for three weeks and areas treated with fillers for three months. The practice recommends a series of eight to ten sessions, then monthly or bimonthly maintenance. The business presents it as an alternative to Botox, fillers and facelifts.

TCM Dermatology is a 60-minute consultation and treatment from $350 that uses Chinese herbal medicine instead of pharmaceuticals. It addresses acne, rosacea, eczema, perioral dermatitis, psoriasis, alopecia and melasma. Each patient receives a custom herbal formula, which is changed every two to four weeks as the condition changes. A partner herbal pharmacy cooks the herbs into a decoction taken twice a day. Treatment usually runs four to six months with a visit each month, in person or by telehealth for clients living far from New York City. The session fee covers consultation and exam, and herbs are an additional cost averaging $300 to $400 a month.

The Facial Gua Sha Lift is a 75-minute needle-free option from $275 using facial gua sha and cupping, with scalp and neck gua sha and deep moisturizing. The business describes its facial gua sha as going further than the lymphatic drainage style common in spas, and says it is not expected to leave marks. It also states that facial gua sha cannot reduce fat or replace weight loss. Lanshin Acupuncture is a 60-minute session from $200 using small thin needles, with optional cupping, gua sha and moxibustion. The site states that practitioners with L.Ac. or D.Ac. after their name hold an acupuncture license. TCM Massage is a 75-minute full-body session from $225 that blends massage with cupping, gua sha and tui na, adjusted to each client's concerns. The TCM Head Spa + Scalp Rejuvenation is a 75-minute dry service from $225 using cupping, massage, gua sha and far-infrared heat, with an optional scalp-care oil. It does not include a shampoo or blow-out. It suits mild to moderate scalp conditions such as psoriasis, and severe cases are referred to TCM Dermatology.

These cover topics including a heat-powered neck lift, scalp gua sha, a full-face session, menopause support, sleep, weight and eye and neck programs. A beginner gua sha face lift course is currently on sale for $20. The shop sells gua sha tools, scalp combs, scalp stimulators, a hot massager, sculpting spoons, body, eye, scalp and hair products, internal wellness products and sets, and skincare curated by the founder. U.S. shipping is free on orders of $75 or more, and international shipping is offered to most countries except Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela and India. Tools and skincare cannot be returned or exchanged. The entire product collection is also sold in the studio.

Lanshin works from Traditional Chinese Medicine principles that focus on observing and following the body's natural flows. Its specialties are TCM dermatology and cosmetic acupuncture with gua sha, alongside general acupuncture and TCM massage.
